Description:
’36 Chowringhee Lane’ is the story of an old lady Violet Stoneham. Violet is an Anglo-Indian schoolteacher who teaches Shakespeare and has a dingy house to live. On a fateful day, she meets her ex-student Nandita and her boyfriend Somaresh. She invites them over to her place. The lovers were tired of stealing intimate moments in taxis and public places. Their eyes lit up on seeing Violet’s apartment.
As the time passes, a warm and exciting relationship develops between the lovers and the old lady. For the old lady this relationship becomes the most precious thing in her life.
Many a frames capturing the emotional journey of Violet follow. Suddenly, the ephemeral joy in her life does a disappearing act and leaves Stoneham groping for solace in Shakespeare.
